コメディ『Limmy’s Show』でスコットランド英語
スコットランド英語の特徴の一つはglottal stop（声門閉鎖音)。閉じた声門が開放されて起こる破裂音を /t/ の代わりに多用する傾向のことです。
音声表記は [ʔ] で表します。イギリス英語では非常によく聞かれる発音です。/t/の音を飲み込んで、しゃっくりをしているようにも聞こえたり、全く抜け落ちてしまって、その部分だけ音がなくなってしまったように聞こえることもあります。
それがとても良く分かるのが、『Limmy’s Show』の次の動画。
“water” が “wah-ar”(ワーアー)に聞こえませんか？
“bottles of water”も“boles of wah-ar”(ボールオブワーアー)に聞こえます。
