And this phrase is used when you are trying to explain something, or explain the result, or conclusion of an event, especially an unexpected one, so something that you weren’t expecting.
And you use this expression when you are making a comparison between a possible situation and the actual outcome.
So it is used especially when you weren’t expecting the result.
And instead of as it turned out, you can say in conclusion, or in the end, or as I found out later, or I ended up as something, something.
Maybe if the weather forecast, it was rain, but then it didn’t rain at all that day, you can say as it turned out, I did not need to bring my umbrella.
So, In the end, I did not need to bring my umbrella, after all.
