映画『ボビーとディンガン』(原題：Opal Dream)を見ながら、オーストラリア英語に触れてみましょう。映画の舞台は南オーストラリア州のクーバーペディ(Coober Pedy)、世界最大のオパール産地です。

今回紹介するのは法廷のシーン。レックス・ウィリアムソン(Rex Williamson)は不法侵入で盗みを働いた容疑で、シド・フレイザー（Sid Fraser）から訴えられます。レックスは、行方不明のポビーとディンガンを探していただけだと説明します。

しかし、ポビーとディンガンは、娘のケリーアン(Kellyanne)の想像上の人物でした。人は、目に見えない存在のために、どこまで行動できるのか。そもそも、目に見えない存在とは一体何を意味しているのか。物語はそんなテーマに迫ってゆきます。

Court Clerk: Quiet please! Case no.7, Fraser vs Williamson.

Judge McNultyk: Rex Williamson, you’re accused for trespassing and prospecting unlawfully on Mr. Frasers’ claim, also come on common assault.
How do you plead?

The public: He is guilty, the mongrel.

Rex Williamson: Not guilty, your Honor.

Nichols: Then in your statement, you said to you are on my client claim because my daughter told me to.

Rex Williamson: Yeah, that’s right.

Nichols: How old is your daughter?

Rex Williamson: Nine.

Nichols: Nine? So Williamson, how long have you been mining for opal?

Rex Williamson: About a year.

Nichols: Any luck?

Rex Williamson: It’s bits and pieces. No. No luck.

Nichols: But you had heard rumours that my clients was “on colour”?

Rex Williamson: Yeah, I heard.
You know, here a lots of things in this town.
Lots of different rumours.

Nichols: Mr. Williamson, is it true that you own mine was recently collapsed?

Rex Williamson: Yeah, yeah. it did a couple of months back.

Sid: Yeah, so you thought he’d steal from someone elses.

Judge McNultyk: Thank you, Mr. Frasers.

The public: He’s done time.

Humph: That was years ago.

The public: He’s a bloody crim!!

Judge McNultyk: Previous convictions are not taken into consideration.

Sid: He is a ratter.

Rex Williamson: I didn’t rat you mate. I didn’t rat him. I didn’t rat him.

Judge McNultyk: All right.

Rex Williamson: I was looking for Pobby and Dingan.

Nichols: Pobby and Dingan?

Rex Williamson: They are my daughter’s friends. They are imaginary.

Nichols: Please explain!

Rex Williamson: My daughter Kellyanne has had these imaginary friends.
And I had been just happening to be looking after them that day, I forgot them, kind of lost them.
So when I got home she went crazy, she said…
She is an unusual kid.
She asked me if I’d go back up to the fields, and look for them.
When we went there, we had a bit of a look and she thought they might have wandered down Sid’s claim.
