A culture makes the language, not the other way round.

Language is made from the way people live.

And language doesn’t define the culture.

Culture defines languages in my opinion.

And so part of understanding English culture is understanding these attitude towards family, family marks, family connection, these kinds of things.

Because in UK, it is only one of the most important things, your family.

Family first, education second, money third.

So people like The Beatles, when they went to try to buy an expensive Rolls-Royce, the salesman said, “no, I don’t sell Rolls-Royce to people like you”.

Because they have Liverpool accent, they have money, but they won’t.

It’s true story, I think.

I think it was John Lennon, he wrote about this, “when I got there, when I went there to buy the first expensive car, the sales man said, no. He wouldn’t sell it”.

Yeah, even they know he had the money, yeah.

Because they just didn’t believe a rock star should be driving around Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce is for rich people, for upper class people, not for rich working class people.
