イギリス出身のリチャード先生(聖蹟桜ヶ丘)にお話しをお聞きしました。英語を話すときにはストレートな表現を使わなければならない、と考えているとしたら、そのこ　とが英語の上達を妨げてるのかもしれません。

日本人は他の国の人々と比較して直接的な表現で話すことを苦手とし、より間接的な表現を好む傾向にあるようです。でも、それは日本人だけではありませんでした。イギリス人も日本人同様、アメリカ人と比較してより間接的な表現をこのむ傾向があるようです。では、イギリス人とアメリカ人の間にはコミュニケーションのギャップはないのでしょうか。

Usually when you get Americans and English people together, there is quite a lot of misunderstanding.

Quite a lot of things, really, the nuance of words or expressions.

The Americans may think that the English are being too cool or too cold in their feelings.

The English people may think that the Americans are being too straight in the way of their talking and maybe they should use softer tone, things like that.
