Oh, yes they are. Yes. Yes, they can be. A lot of words are different actually. This is a matching exercise actually, British English and American English. And I found the most students actually know American English, because they learned at school. So they know for example “eggplant” is ナス. But maybe they don’t know that it’s aubergine in British English. So there are… And also zucchini is courgette in English. So lots of things have different words.

British people say rubbish, and then American say trash or garbage. So Sometimes I give my students this for homework too, can’t introduce the idea that… There are many. There are many. Yeah. And some grammars as well are a little different. I can’t think any examples at the moment. But there are some grammar phrases that are other a little different. So it’s not just pronunciation. They are actually different words.

Though American and British people can usually communicate pretty well. We know most American English words from America TV shows that we watched since children.

Though I think maybe there are some words that they hear for the first time. I think I said “brolly” to my friend. “Where is my brolly?”, which is umbrella. We say umbrella too in English, but it’s a kind of casual way to say an umbrella. My American friend said, “hmm? What’s that?”
