アフリカの英語に触れる~Speaking English Around The World.
Now we have started a computer course. So we brought some old computers from Japan, used computers. 中古のコンピューター持って行った from Akihabara. This is one of them is from Akihabara. And then we brought them to at Zambia. And now they use those old computers. And we have created certificate for computer learning. And we have a teacher, Mr. Manda, he is one of the local people. They are in Mfuwe, he is teaching computers. He knows computers very well. And he is teaching computers now to the local people. So they can get computer course.
They have digital camera too. Actually CASIO, the Japanese camera maker, supported, helped us to get for the ladies and for this One Planet Café so that they can take photos from the view of African eyes, you know., point of view of Africans. Usually we, the tourists coming to Africa, we are taking the photos trying to tell about Africa. But this time African people are telling about Africa themselves through these digital cameras. And we sell those photos in Japan, Japanese newspaper and magazines. So if anyone in interested, please contact us. We can help you to get very interesting photos from Africa, that Africans are taking from the village and daily life that we could never take. And from that money that we sell them in Japan, we give half of it to the One Planet Café and to the local people, so that they can start their own thing. One of the ladies has already started the bakery, thanks to those photos.
That is one way of fair trade in information. In fair information, not only things. And computer course, of course, already two people, two students, who thank to this computer course, have found a new employment. They have found jobs in their area. So they are very happy about that. So this is a helped to self-help, we call it. A helped to self-help. Help to self-help. So we don’ t help them. We help them so that they can help themselves. We give them, I think is rod in English, to fish. We don’t give them fish to eat. We give them fishing rods so they can help themselves to find their own fish. We teach them fishing instead of giving them fish.
It’s about sustainability, you know. And sustainability is main theme of One Planet Café. And it’s not only about helping and giving aid. But actually helping to create trade. Not aid but trade. And at same time, protecting their environment, so they learn about how to protect and respect the elephants, giraffes and zebras, all the wild life that is there. So balance between environment, health and economy. And those three pillars: environment, health and economy, are the main three pillars for sustainability according to The United Nations. So that is what we aim at. A learning center for adults based on sustainability.
