今日のゲストは、スウェーデン出身の環境コンサルタント、ペオ・エクベリさんです。ペオさんと奥様の聡子さんがザンビアで始めたバナナペーパープロジェクトについてお話しをお聞きします。
今使っている紙が木から作られていることは知っていましたが、実際にどのような過程を経て紙になるのかについて調べて見たことはありませんでした。

And talking about this nuclear power accident, we had exactly the same thing happened in Europe 25 years ago. Exactly 25 years ago, and Chernobyl in previously it was Soviet Union. So when that happened, that was happened in the another country, but the radiation came all the way to Sweden. And first, we had blueberries in the forest and mushrooms were affected as well. And then after that, we had effects on the meats, actually the reindeer meats, because we eat the reindeer meats. And now everything is repeating. It is happening in Japan. First it was HORENSO, GYUNYU, milk and spinach and now NIKU, even meats are affected. So we don’t learn very much as human being in 25 years, do we? We forget easily, right? It is a good lesson for us. It is really terrible this accident. You know all thought and all my feeling goes out for, once that I have been affected. Because it is really sad, what is happened.

But at the same time, we have to take this and turn this around, and give some hope. I think that is a big responsibility as grownups for the next generation, to show that children and young people here in Japan and in the world, that there is a hope. I think that is what we have to connect our business or daily life to giving hope now. And there is hope. You don’t need nuclear power. You don’t need oil. There is enough electricity coming from sun or from wind. Did you know for instance like only one hour of sunshine, sun shining one hour on this planet, there is as much energy in that one hour sunshine as we, human being are using one year. We just need to learn how to use that. So if you can use that, we don’t need to have any nuclear power and oil any more.

You know, McDonalds in Sweden are nuclear free. You know almost of all the restaurants in Sweden, and the biggest hotel chain is nuclear power free. And Volvo, the track maker, they have gone the unclear power free. So it is possible. They use wind and sun and water, hydro.
